Olga & Petr's Wedding

Hi Everyone, Olga & Petr's wedding was wonderful. I am so glad God allowed me to be here for it. I don't know where to begin... there was so much that went on leading up to and including the wedding. In some ways it was very similar to the weddings we have in America. In other ways it was quite different. For example... Petr wasn't allowed to see the wedding dress before the wedding day; Olga's father walked her down the aisle; they got married in a baptist church in front of lots of friends and relatives; and the wedding reception had lots of food, music and dancing. Now for some of the differences... the bride and groom saw each other in our apartment and then together went to the church; the bride and groom each had a witness who stood up for them but there was no bridesmaids or groomsmen; Olga's mother and aunts made lots & lots of sweets/cookies that were delicious; Olga and Petr gave many of these sweets to family and friends as gifts; the reception lasted all day and night. They first had a sit down formal lunch for about 75 people and then later in the afternoon more friends came for more celebrating with music and dancing. There was so many sweets/cookies, and cakes all around.

It was a beautiful day with sunshine and a fresh layer of snow that had fallen the night before. I was surprised at how many people I knew and the thing that touched me the most was when the photographer asked all the relatives of the bride and groom to come forward for a group picture... Olga's sister came and told me to come be in the picture. She doesn't speak English only Czech and I understood what she was saying but I kept telling her in Czech but I'm not a relative. In the end I went forward and decided I would stand in the back out of the way. Well, a couple of Olga's aunts saw me and decided to move me towards the center right behind Olga's father--I was viewed as part of the family--what a special moment for me. I say thank you Lord for giving me such special friends and being able to be with them on their special day! It is a day I'll never forget. Hope all is well and until next time take care.

Blessings,
Colleen
