Greetings...
Hi Everyone, Hope all is well! This morning when I was heading to meet my friend Jirka (George) for our regular conversation time I noticed today's date on the electronic advertisement billboard--the 12th of Oct. I couldn't believe it because today marks my 10th month since I moved here. Where has the time gone? When I told Jirka that I had just realized I had been here 10 months--he made a joke about if I was tired of being here. I quickly replied no way. There is way too much to learn. And I absolutely adore being here even though there are many challenges along the way.
One of the biggest challenges is of course learning the Czech language. I am making steady progress and many people tell me it takes time. Especially since Czech is so different than English. Two weeks ago I started taking regular courses at the Brno State Language School. I like the classes very much. There are seven students in our class with a wide range of foreigners. I am the only American; 1 young woman is from Japan; 1 is from Ukraine; 1 man is from Congo and 3 teenagers are from Laos. So we have quite a diverse group. It is a beginner level class and it can get quite interesting. Our teacher is a young Czech woman. She speaks and teaches us in Czech when the majority of us have confused looks on our faces only then will she explain it in English to us. That helps everyone except the man from Congo. He doesn't know English but French. It can get pretty funny watching the teacher and even the students try to help him understand what is being taught :)
Well, that's a little bit of what is going on. I'll post pictures soon. Take Care until next time.
Blessings,
Colleen
