Enjoying This Piece of Furniture

Here is a picture of the one piece of furniture we own. It is our sofa during the day and turns into my bed at night. We are slowly furnishing our flat/apartment. We are waiting for our kitchen table/chairs/bench to come in at any time. Hopefully, it will be here this week. We both bought carpet for our bedrooms last Friday and have ordered bedroom furniture for our rooms. The bedroom furniture should be in within 3 weeks. There are a few differences when buying here than in US. It is common when buying large items to order and wait for them to come in especially when buying from a small store. The other thing is most sales clerks don't speak English or very little. It has been alright so far. My roommate has been so kind to give me a few phrases to use and sometimes she has been with me--which helps a ton :)

Some Pictures of the Past Four Weeks...

First Picture is Moving Day and important possession is the 5 liters of honey in the jar. Second Picture is of my 2 week Intensive Czech language course. I learned a ton and our teacher is in the middle dressed in all black. Third picture was taken after my first culture experience in a beauty salon.

Ballad of a Bandit

Hi Everyone, Last night I got to experience my first play in a small theatre near the center of town. It was all in Czech and I really enjoyed it. I was able to pick out some of the words and phrases-- especially since I just completed an intense two week Czech language course. There was beautiful music and singing in the performance. It was quite funny and at times it didn't matter what language was being spoken. Gestures or funny sounds of a person's voice communicates more than you can imagine!! The theatre was small and parts of the action happened around the audience. The name of the play was called "A Ballad of a Bandit". There was much intrigue and tragedy along with alot of humor interwined throughout the two and half hour performance!

A few interesting observations that made me think this is a Czech culture type of thing--1st as Elisha and I walked downstairs for intermission a few young ladies held trays with nice mugs (not paper or plastic cups) of coffee or tea for us to drink for free and 2nd at the end of the performance the audience clapped and clapped (no one yelled or whistled) but did I mention the audience clapped-- I mean they kept clapping which caused the actors to come out for curtain calls. I have never seen so many curtain calls. By the way no one stood up to give a standing ovation instead from my point of view all of the continual clapping was like a standing ovation!! It was quite interesting to observe and went on for quite a while.

Thought you'd like to hear about my first theatre experience!
Take Care until next time!
Blessings,
Colleen

Greetings!

Hi Everyone, Sorry--it has been a few weeks since I have done an entry. Things are going well. My roommate and I have moved into our flat. It is very nice though we still need to get more furniture for it. Right now we own a nice sofa that turns into my bed at night. I haven't had any time to get settled in yet. I just finished a two week Intensive Czech Language Course. It was intense. I learned just the other day that we covered about 5 lessons of grammar in 2 weeks that is about what an average semester course covers in about 13 weeks. So I pretty much have been going to class and then studying and completing lots of homework. I will explain more about the class later.

Just wanted to put an entry out here to let you know I am alive and well. In a little bit I will be heading to the theatre. I am excited to go to my first Czech show. I am going with my friend Eliska. I will let you know all about it!

Take care until next time!
Blessings,
Colleen
